but NOT Jesus
nor my "black" grandfather

Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:
“‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”
None of us fully practice what we preach
HYPOCRITE (Merriam Webster)
1 - a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2 - a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings
Matthew 6:1 [JESUS SAID] “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven."
WHY DO MANY PEOPLE REJECT CHRISTIANITY?
"Hypocritical Christians" is the number one reason I hear from people who say they reject Christianity. In fact, that was once the main reason I rejcted Christianity. Sadly it's true that the light of Christ and His pure character is often clouded by the darkness of selfish human sin. His creation and His creatures are infected with inherent selfishness, the way of survival of the fittest . . .
- sacrificing others for the desires of self.
instead of the Way of Christ . . .
- sacrificing self for the true needs of others.
First of all, please remember that many people who claim to be Christians do not really know Him - personally. They have never been truly regenerated, born again of His Spirit. Therefore they do not even have the ability to reflect the fruit of His Spirit, His character.
[Jesus said] 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do."
"There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
1 John 2:18-19
"18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us."
Worse, is the fact that many people who are "born again", including me, too often say NO to His Spirit's will and YES to our own selfish desires. Our life testimonies dishonor Him and cause stumbling blocks in others' way. These folks are born of His Spirit, but have childishly refused to grow to maturity in Christ. They could reflect His character but do not:
13 "For you, brethren, have been called to freedom; only do not use freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law."
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who [habitually] practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love: [reflected as] joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit [born again], then let us also walk [stoicheo = march under His authority] in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another."
HAVE YOU BEEN HURT BY HYPOCRITES?
There is Good News and a sober warning to all who have been hurt by hypocrites. The good news is that Jesus is NOT a hypocrite. He is the only one, as promised and prophesied, who lived a life of pure, unselfish love. He proved it on the cross, giving Himself as a willing self-sacrifice for the consequences we all deserve.
The sober warning is that if you reject Jesus because of hypocritical "Christians", that excuse will not work as a defense at the judgment. We all are accountable for our personal decision between our self and our Creator. Everyone is a hypocrite, especially those who try to excuse their rejection of the perfect Christ by judging imperfect Christians.
Please don't wait till it's too late.
Your own human goodness is not good enough for His pure Heaven.
Matthew 7:1-5 [JESUS SAID] “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? ....
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God?
"the wages of sin is death [separation from God who is life]..."
He offers His pure goodness to replace your impure, infected nature. Then and only then, you will be worthy to be a part of his coming New Heavens and New Earth - the New Creation.
" but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus the Lord."
10 [JESUS] "was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man,
but of God."
