Testimony - Why I'm so passionate about this vital issue:
I was a depressed rebellious, and suicidal child.
I saw a number of secular counselors, who were kind and caring, but no change.
Left the church & pursued the new age movement.
Studied psychology and philosophy in college.
Finally submitted to Jesus and was SAVED at 23.
Sought "Christian" Counsel, but it was just psychotherapy with a thin layer of Bible verses. Finally found two biblical, discipleship counselors, one was a businessman and the other was an attorney.
The profoundly simple principles from Scripture about walking in submission to the Spirit, transformed my life, producing more and more of the Spirit's fruit.
I began to tell others about what God's principles had done for me, and by word of mouth a counseling ministry grew until there was a waiting list with over 50 people on it.
This question can be asked in other ways:
What counsel did God provide for His people, when they were anxious, depressed, or struggling with difficult family relationships?
Was God’s counsel enough, or did His people have to wait for the help of Freud, Maslow, Rogers, & all of the other modern philosophers of the soul (psycho - therapists)?
Folks, after almost 20 yrs serving as a biblical counselor, & now a church planter & pastor, I’m more convinced than ever, that God’s COMPLETE counseling provision is:
simple enough for a child,
yet profound enough for any PhD

(It's a matter of epistemology) ?
Epistemology is just a fancy term so that in debate you don’t have to say,
"Oh yeah, how do you know that’s true?".
Three Counseling Options, yet Many Models

What? Christ’s character & relationships that reflect God’s Family

Maturity, Marriage, Parenting, Communication, etc....
3. Problem ? What’s the etiology/root of the fruit? (Flesh or Spirit)
Flesh: Ignorance or Rebellion (Jam 2:19 - submissive faith)
4. Plan? What’s God’s Way to overcome the problem?
JESUS (A person, not a program, Gal 2:20; John 14:6)
Not works of the flesh Gal 3:1-10, but fruit of the Spirit!
Not just education, but transformation!
Not will-power, but the will-surrendered (Thy will be done)
Submissive Faith (Gal 5:25, Walk/stoicheo/march)
Not biblical legalism or spiritual mysticism, but Christ Cross, Spirit, Word, & Church Family
L.E.A.D. - Loving, Equipping, Accountability, Discipline
